Resisting climate change
Climate change is an increasingly pressing issue, so we were thrilled to work with the United Nations on this project, which recognizes innovative solutions toward a resilient, low-carbon future.
The United Nations climate change secretariat awards institutions that have successfully implemented a project, initiative, program, or other activity to address climate change mitigation or adaptation, focusing on five key topics: Women for Results, Financing for Climate Friendly Investment, ICT Solutions, Planetary Health, and Climate Neutral Now.
(More on these topics here.)
Our task was to design and develop an interactive annual report that would highlight the winning “Lighthouse Activities” of 2015.
By showcasing these remarkable examples of creativity and transformational change, along with the extraordinary people behind them, we can inspire everyone to be an accelerator towards the kind of future we all want and need.
UX and Visual Design
Fortunately, we inherited some design direction and branding assets from the previous year. From those, we created new wireframes to incorporate new activities and content types. Wireframes were made for each page, across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Development
We chose WordPress as our content management system (CMS) and outfitted it with our latest editorial platform. Deployments are made by publishing a static site file package from a staging site, which is then copied to the production server. This provides a huge performance boost by leveraging server-side caching and bypassing any need to run an application server or database.
Our editorial platform, FLEX, enables the client to edit all text and image content. It also allows them to design and adjust custom layout configurations across the entire site.
