700 ISLANDS

UX, Graphic Design & WordPress

THE 700 ISLANDS OF THE BAHAMAS

It’s not common knowledge that there are so many Bahamian islands. The original brand was named “The 700 Experience” and meant to focus on a holistic view of life on the islands. The client had developed a devout user-base over the previous several years and was looking to reframe the years of content in a way that clarified intent, and provided a foundation for high quality editorial production. Once we determined that the focus should be on the most recognizable and desirable component (the Bahamain islands) we started thinking of a new brand name. Our timing was perfect and we were lucky enough to find our first domain choice would become available within days.

REFRAMING THE EXPERIENCE

Island life isn’t all just tropical drinks and lounging. Well, at least a tiny fraction of it isn’t… There are a huge variety of reasons people are interested in the Bahamas: vacation, seasonal and year round living, vacations, weddings, business, diving, sailing, etc. To put it short, there are many considerations where an experienced guide is valuable and even necessary.

We spent weeks identifying Personas and establishing behavioral patterns that exposed our primary content verticals: Travel, Living, and Style. Through here we could easily curate existing content into navigable and SEO friendly destinations. The resulting platform enabled authoring of beautiful and unique content and is automatically categorized into the appropriate pages.

STYLE GUIDE

As is standard practice with any visual design work we do, our style guide provides a complete overview of font faces, styles, colors, etc. as well as context and component usage.

THE SHIELD

Redefining such a personal brand meant drawing from the client’s rich family history and making every element tightly bound to Bahamian tradition. Each element was chosen for it’s individual importance to the island and to the client’s personal experience.

QUEEN CONCH

Commanding the cusp, the Queen Conch takes her place prominently at the pinnacle, much as she does on the client’s own family shield.

SILVER TOP PALM

Native to the Bahamas, the Silver Top Palm is distinctively dressed in dark blue-green, deeply divided palmate leaves that harbor a beautiful silver hue beneath.

ELUTHERA PINEAPPLE

Placed at the bottom point, symbolizing the client’s 130-year-old family history originating as pineapple farmers.

SISAL PLANT

Introduced to the Bahamas in the mid-1800s, this plant is used in an array of traditional local products.

SHIELD

Inspired by the 18 sheids of the Commonwealth, gifted upon independence from Britain in 1973.

FLAMINGOS

The flamingo’s familiar stance, supporting itself on one foot, represents strength and pays homage to the Bahamas official Coat of Arms.

HAND-DRAWN ICONOGRAPHY

We polished the visual design down to the last details. No pixel was left unturned, no opportunity to elevate the brand opportunity was missed. The fun and rustic nature of airy, hand-drawn sketches permeate even the most seemingly insignificant and oft-overlooked elements of the experience.

In the golden age of visual storytelling, ATTCK accelerated the bringing to life a lifestyle and brand that is unique to the 700 islands of the Bahamas.

CHAMPAGNE & BLUE SKIES

Following the launch of 700Islands.com, there are many plans for enhancements including beautiful content and one more big announcement. During our research, we uncovered an entirely separate and exciting opportunity which we spent as much effort on as this and will hopefully be launching soon.

We’d like to say thank you to everyone who contributed, over the course of this past year, to producing such a wonderful experience.
